Main Objective of the assessment

.    This is an individual coursework is a research proposal. Each student should submit a research proposal with a good and clear research  question, literature review, research methodology plan with a summary of your research plan. This research topic normally relates the  research issues in the student’s master programme subject area. This proposal is a plan for your dissertation without actually collecting research primary data or actually conducting data analysis

Description of the Assessment

Write a proposal for your dissertation for your master’s degree based on the material you have learnt on the module. The proposal should do the following:

.    Provide an explanation of the research topic that will be addressed by the proposal. This can either be a specific research problem that the research seeks to find solutions to or a research topic that the research aims to explore provide and more knowledge on. Give background information on this research topic using the Mintel database at Brunel Library.

.    In relation to the above, demonstrate where there is a gap in the literature that justifies the research topic. This will require a review of

the primary literature on your research topic. At least ten recent articles in CABS Ranked 2* to 4* journals should be used and cited.

.    Based on your research topic and discussion of the gap in the literature propose a research question. This should be analytical in nature and use language such as ‘To investigate’, ‘To analyse’, ‘To understand’ and ‘To explore’

.    Discuss whether your research will adopt a positivist or an interpretivist theoretical approach. Explain these concepts and justify which approach your research will take. Your research philosophy and theoretical lens must naturally and logically fit into your research topic and question.

.    State which research approach you will adopt – a deductive or inductive approach. Explain these concepts and justify which approach your research will take. Again, this must fit into your research topic and question, and must logically support your research method which you will explain in the next section. If you choose a deductive approach, you should list some of the hypotheses you will seek to test. These should be supported by your literature review. If you choose an inductive approach, discuss which theories you will use to  guide your research.

.    Provide a detailed summary of your research methodology. You need to explain what the research method is, why you have chosen it and how you will implement it

.    Explain how you will analyse your data. This must be precise and be based on what you have been taught on the module. Your analysis should also align with your research topic, question, theoretical and research approach, your methodology and your use of theory.

.    Based on the above, explain how your data and analysis will be valid and reliable, and how this will enable you to answer your research question.

.    Close with a summary of your research design, strategy and your research contribution, detailing and explaining every step of your proposed research.

.    The proposal must use material from the core textbook for the module (see module study guide for your guidance) and from the lecture notes. It also needs to use at least five books from the reading list for the module. Failure to do this will result in a reduced grade.

.    This assignment should be presented with 12 pt. Times New Roman or Calibri (Body) with line spacing of 1.5. The word limit is 3000 words (excluding references).

.    The proposal must be written using clear and precise academic English and should be written to a high standard. It should be referenced, coherently structured, have good paragraphing (on average three paragraphs per page) and should have a logical and clear flowing structure. This will be reflected in your overall grade.
