ADAD9311 Designing the Experience

Exhibitions and Beyond

Assessment 02

ASSESSMENT SUMMARY:

Title: Collaborative Exhibition Project Weight: 60%

Assessment Type: Design Studio Work

Submission Requirements:

Group Work: Yes

Weighting: 50% group work (equiv. 30% overall course), 50% individual

Where to Submit: Turnitin (Moodle)

Due: Week 11

Assessment Description and feedback process:

The practice of exhibition design is a highly engaging and often ephemeral experiential format, that has evolved to become an integral part of our sociocultural activity.

You are invited to collaboratively develop an exhibition design project, transforming ideas and spatial sequences into an engaging and immersive experience for the public. Working in groups, you will develop the exhibition concept and associated deliverables during class time and through follow-up research. These deliverables include a curatorial rationale, experiential goals, design schema, and visualizations, covering all elements of exhibition design.

In Week 10, you will present a summary of your project through a verbal presentation, supported by a visual component (such as PowerPoint). All group members should participate in this presentation. A short Q+A session will follow each presentation to gather feedback from your tutor and classmates and aid in refining your project and encouraging reflection.

The final portfolio is to be submitted via Moodle in Week 11. Your assessment will consider your individual contributions, reflections on your work and the group process, as well as the overall group proposal. Specific details regarding group and individual components are provided below.

Feedback will be provided on a regular basis through discussion with peers and your tutor. Summative assessment and feedback on this assessment task will be provided digitally.

How to complete this assessment:

In groups of four, each person will adopt a key role in an exhibition development team (namely project co- ordinator, curator, designer (graphics) and designer (spatial)).

Your task is to produce an exhibition proposal that creates an engaging and informative experience for audiences/participants.

The scope of the exhibition should be around 15 artworks (of any form/classification including design or applied art. ie. selections can include objects, digital/new media art, prints, performance works).

The exhibition proposal should be sited with a relevance or relationship to its chosen context.

Some possible contexts include White Cube Gallery, Object dense heritage site or museum, Urban environment/cityscape, Rural landscape (e.g., sculpture park).

Group Deliverables:

•     Responsibility Matrix: Outline the organisation and management of collaborative tasks.
