SEMESTER 2, 2025
Underground Stope Blast Design
For the stope below (20*30*25 m), provide:
1) Drilling pattern design (show the spacing on the pattern, include a table with hole IDs and the determined length of each hole)
2) Charging pattern design (show details on the pattern, include a table to summarise charge length and stemming length, determine volume of rock per ring, amount of explosive per ring, ring powder factor, and mean toe powder factor & location of primer(s))
3) Delay pattern design (maximum time to burn the explosive in a hole (ms), minimum time to burn explosive in a hole (ms), and inter-hole delay (ms))
Note: For a particular parameter, if multiple calculation methods are available, use all of them and compute the average.
Note: For each item above, explain the design process and required considerations.
Figure 1. Section view of a stope
Conditions:
1) Drilling condition:
- Production blast hole drilling diameter: 89 mm (the most common diameter)
- Drilling with Simba M6 - COP 3060
2) Rock Mass condition: same as Table 1.
3) Drilling and blasting design conditions:
- Toe spacing and burden ratio of 1.4 is generally applied.
- The practical damage zone should be used for stope blasting design.
- For a parameter, if multiple methods exist, perform calculations for all and specify which value you have chosen and why.
