Quantitative project: Submission procedure and grading rubric
ECON6008, S2 (Int. Aug-Sep) 2025
Submission procedure
For the quantitative group project, you need to submit both
(1) your written report (in PDF, typed in 11pt font, 1.5 spacing); and
(2) all of your .mod files (and the relevant .m files if you have any) to generate all the results in the report.
I will treat your submission as incomplete if you don’t hand in both items. You need to submit (upload) these two items online in the assignment drop boxes labelled "Project Report" (for the written report) and "Dynare code files" (for your codes) --- these two drop boxes are under the "Quantitative Project" assignment category. Only one of the group members needs to submit the report and the code files --- but make sure you write the full names and SID# of all group members at the front of your report.
Submission of your codes
Provide a separate .mod file for each sub-question, following this naming convention:
• No_[question number].mod
• For example, for Question 1(b), name the file No_1b.mod.
• Name any MATLAB .m files you create clearly and informatively.
Upload a single zip file containing all relevant codes (.mod files and any MATLAB .m files you create for generating figures and results).
Submission of project codes codes
Please submit your report in a single in .doc, .docx, or .pdf format.
Grading scheme
The project will be graded according to the following rubric:
• 25%: participation mark
• 30%: the code (Dynare .mod and .m files)
• 45%: your report (your answers to questions 1-3)
The 25% participation mark is there to ensure that all group members positively contribute to the project. You can think of this participation mark as a "base mark", in a sense that if all of your group members were happy with your contribution, you would get a full mark. If you're not happy with the contribution of a member of your group, you can either tell me in person or through email --- I will verify the comments/complaints and keep them confidential (as needed).
Your .mod (and .m) files will be worth 30%. To get the full mark, (i) I need to be able to run your .mod files and obtain all the figures you include in your report, and (ii) your model solution and the impulse-response figures are correct (hence, I’ll be checking your.mod files).
45% of the mark will be based on your explanation of the impulse response figures (e.g. how you connect the impulse responses to what you have learned in the 1st half of the semester) and your answers to questions 1-3.
Project Report submission sample
Under the Quantatitive Project module, I also posted two samples of project report of this kind (involving quantitative models). Note, however, that those are from a different unit of study and based on a different quantatitive model and a different set of questions. Past students’ reports in ECON6008 tend to range from 6-14 pages (excluding the cover page, but including all the figures) --- but this is only suggestive, e.g. it depends on how you arrange the figures, etc.
Note on collaboration
Note that the aim of the project is for each of you to get some experience in solving and analyzing a quantitative small open-economy DSGE model. To this end, I do allow and encourage you to discuss the project (the Dynare coding and the interpretation of your results) with anyone in the class, including with those outside your own group. However, each group is still required to write a separate, distinct report and Dynare codes.
