Type: Short Graphic Story

Theme: Your graphic short story will be based on an existing written piece of literature, a poem, short story or a section of a novel.  You may also base your work on a film, short film or TV show (however the style. / look and selection of images should be your own design). You may want to recreate the look of a genre film such as film noir. This would take the look and feel of a specific type of film, such as gangster films.  All works must have a narrative arc.

Format: Layout for each page will be done in Photoshop, Illustrator or other professional type software or App (not Word or Powerpoint) and saved as a .pdf.  You will consider if you want your work to be a series of individual pages, two page spreads (like a book) or a continuous scrolling image.  You can use Adobe Indesign to save as a "spread" and exported to .pdf.  This will create a digital book look with two facing pages (like an open book).

Requirements: All projects are required to have a cover page.  Your project should be approximately 10 – 20 frames in length (your project may be longer, dependent on story being told).

Assignment Description:

Your graphic story will be based on an existing written piece of literature, poem, song, story, movie, TV show....  You must create all the images and careful consider the relationship between: what you show, what you tell, what you leave in and what you leave out. Your telling of this story should be interesting, appropriate for your audience (your class) and original in its telling.  You will be expected to consider the underlying structure (form) of your sequential story. You should use photography as your primary medium, if you want to draw your work you must receive permission form. the TA or instructor. 

Objectives:

This project is an introduction to editing in time-based media.  This includes temporal, auditory and narrative considerations.

You may not use images from the web or anyone else's work.

Submission:

1) Fully complete Graphic Novel at the draft stage to get feedback on before final submission.

2) Saved as PDF.
