ARIN1001 The Past and Futures of Digital Cultures

The Thinkfest report (35%) is an individual report you must write on your own based on the research and group work you carried out for the digital poster and the Thinkfest conference you attended in week 11, as well as further independent research. The Thinkfest report is due in week 13 , by 11:59 pm.

Your report must address the following with answers to all questions:

Reflective practice (1000 words)

1. Individual and group contribution (Reflective Practice, 500 words)

What was your individual role and contribution to the digital poster?

What research did you carry out, and how did you go about researching your topic?

What was one key challenge you or your group encountered in this assignment,t and how was this challenge overcome?

2. Peer review of digital poster (Reflective Practice, 500 words)

Select one other digital poster created by another group in your class. This can be located in your tutorial group's Thinkfest discussion board. Provide a summary of what the poster is about. Write one thing you liked, one thing you thought could be improved and one thing you'd like to learn more about.

Interest-led exploration (1500 words)

3. Building on your topic (500 words)

Select one of the academic sources your group used in the digital poster and address the following:

Identify the source (the full name, title and where it was published).

Provide a summary of the argument

Identify one or more key claims made by the author(s)

Explain the evidence or support used by the author(s). Does it seem adequate? Is it completely relevant?

Explain how this source relates to the key thinker or concept that was selected for the poster

Note: You may alternatively select an academic source from one of the essential readings in the unit.

4. Game, Film or Activity Analysis (1,000 words)

Select a game, film, or activity from one of the tutorial classes from week 2 to 12:

Once you have selected one game, film or activity, answer the following:

Describe (250 Words): What is its purpose, who is involved (e.g. players, characters, audience, group), what is the story/narrative or context (e.g. fictitious world, daily home life, classroom) and mechanics/techniques or procedures.

Explain (250 Words): What was your experience of playing the game, watching the film, or doing the activity? What did you enjoy, encounter and learn? What did you find challenging?

Analyse (500 Words): What key concepts explored in the unit are illustrated in the game, film or activity (e.g. representation, identity, media imaginaries, domestication)? How and why does the game, film, or activity relate to the past and/or futures of digital cultures?

Be specific, critically analyse and integrate examples into your commentary.

Assessment length weighting:

The length of this assignment is 2500 words (10% leeway without penalty). Any references are not included in the word count. The total mark for this assignment is 100. The report is worth 35% of your overall mark for this unit.

Report format

You may use the bolded text as subheadings in your report.

Use APA 7th edition referencing style. (in-text references, page numbers for direct quotations and a reference list). The reference list is excluded from the overall word count. Your reference list should appear at the end of the document and list all the texts you referred to in your text.

Submission: Submit your responses in a Word document to the Thinkfest report (Dropbox) and submit using the 'Upload Submission' button by 11:59 pm.

Submissions for this assignment are not marked anonymously.
