Week 4 – Independent Study Pack
Theme: Designing Your Brand
Your tutor is unwell this week, so this session will run as an independent studio task. Use this time (11:00–16:15) to develop your brand concept and create early visuals for your campaign portfolio. Everything you complete here will contribute directly to your final assessment and be reviewed in class next week.
FORM. 1 – Brand Design Form. (Written Submission)
Deadline: Bring or upload next week before class
Format: Word or PDF (1–2 pages max)
Use this form. to define the strategic foundation of your campaign. Complete each section clearly.
1. Brand Name & Concept
• Proposed brand name
• What does your brand do? (product, service, social cause, creative concept)
• One-sentence mission or tagline
• 3–5 key values or tone words (e.g., inclusive, playful, sustainable, honest)
2. Function & Purpose
• What problem or need does your brand address?
• What is its unique value or appeal?
• Which social or ethical responsibility does it commit to? (privacy, diversity, transparency, sustainability)
3. Target Audience
• Who is your main audience? (age, interests, platform. habits)
• Create one persona example with name, age, and interests.
4. Platform. Strategy
• Choose 3 platforms (one must be major like TikTok, Instagram, or YouTube).
• Explain why each suits your audience.
• What type of content will you post on each?
• Which is your main platform. and why?
5. Brand Story & Tone of Voice
• Short paragraph describing your brand’s story and personality.
• What emotions should your posts evoke? (trust, excitement, empathy, humour, etc.)
• Write one example caption in your brand’s tone.
6. Ethics & Privacy
• What data might you collect? (likes, comments, submissions, user content)
• How will you ensure transparency and consent?
• Any potential ethical risks and how you’ll address them.
7. Next Steps
• What do you plan to create before next week?
• What feedback would be most helpful next session?
FORM. 2 – Visual Direction Task: Mood Board Creation
Objective: Translate your written concept into visual language.
Deadline: Share your link before next week’s class (submit via Moodle or email).
Task:
1. Create a Mood Board that captures the look and feel of your brand:
- Colours, typography, photographic style, textures, references.
- Include examples of logos, post layouts, or campaign imagery.
2. Tools (choose one): Pinterest, Canva, Adobe Express, or Miro.
3. Include at least 10 visual references with short notes describing:
- The overall mood or tone.
- How the style. reflects your brand’s values and audience.
Submission:
- Copy your board share link and paste it into a short document titled DMC3003_YourName_MoodBoardLink.docx.
- Upload or email before next week.
EXERCISE 3 – Visual Production Drafts
Objective: Begin designing content for your final portfolio.
Task:
- Create three draft social media visuals that express your brand identity.
- Work in Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator, TikTok, or CapCut.
- Include a mix of formats: one image post, one story/reel layout, one infographic or carousel.
- Add captions or text overlays in your brand tone.
- Save as PNG/JPEG or screenshots.
Guidance:
- Apply cohesiveness, tone, and SMART goal principles*.
- Ensure visuals are consistent (colour, font, messaging).
- Design for audience and platform. preferences.
Output:
Upload all three visuals in one PDF file titled DMC3003_YourName_VisualDrafts.pdf. Or bring to class next week.
