The goal of this assignment is to explore a research area within the USDOT’s Intelligent Transportation Systems Joint Program Office portfolio. You will select one research area of interest, provide an overview and review at least five scholarly or technical research paper related to that area, and present your findings in the form of a professional research report.
Report Requirements
1. Professional Structure
Your report should be organized and formatted as a professional research paper. It must include the following sections:
o Title Page: Title of your report, your name, course name, instructor’s name, and date.
o Abstract: A short summary (150–200 words) of the research focus, methods, and findings.
o Introduction: Introduce the selected ITS research area, provide background information, and explain why it is important. Clearly state the purpose of your report.
o Methodology: Describe how you reviewed or analyzed the research paper(s). For example, did you summarize key findings, compare multiple studies, or analyze the methodology used in the original research?
o Results / Findings: Present the main insights from the research paper. Highlight figures, tables, or models provided in the paper. Discuss their implications for ITS.
o Discussion and Conclusion: Summarize key takeaways, discuss the broader impact of the research, and highlight possible applications, limitations, or future research directions.
o References: Include all sources cited in APA format.
2. Figures and Tables
o Any figures, diagrams, or tables must be numbered (e.g., Figure 1, Table 2).
o Each figure/table must include a descriptive caption.
o All figures and tables must be cited and referenced appropriately within the text.
3. Writing Standards (5 C’s)
Your report must adhere to the 5 Cs of good writing:
o Clear: Use simple, direct language. Avoid ambiguity.
o Concise: Eliminate unnecessary words or repetition.
o Complete: Provide all necessary information to fully understand your work.
o Careful: Proofread your writing to avoid grammar, spelling, and formatting errors.
o Courteous: Write in a respectful, professional tone suitable for academic work.
4. Formatting and Submission
o Submit your report via Canvas.
o Use a standard academic format (12-point font, Times New Roman, 1-inch margins).
o Length: 6 – 10 pages (not including figures, tables, and references).
o File format: PDF
