b. take accurate notes during academic lectures and summarize the content into journals,  class discussions, and assessments.

c. pose discussion questions and use discussion management strategies, during small group  discussions and discussion-leading assignments.

d. communicate clearly in two formal oral presentations/discussions and with enough accuracy and  fluency to be clearly understood.

e. gather evidence from a variety of sources to support arguments, and correctly cite  information in presentation and discussion.

Course Policies:

Attendance: To be successful in this class, you must attend every class meeting. You may miss up  to 5 classes. 80% attendance is required for the course. Missing more than the allowed number of  absences could result in a lower grade, or could prevent you from progressing in your program of  study.

Arriving on time to class: Lateness to class affects your progress, so it is extremely important  that you arrive at each class on time. The policy is as follows:

Students who arrive late to class (more than 5 minutes late) will be marked tardy.  Three lates equal one absence.

Preparation: Please come prepared to class with your homework done carefully and all of the  required books and materials.

Participation: Speaking is learning! In-class activities require participation and teamwork  with other students. Please be respectful and polite to your classmates at all times. You will  gain points for participating frequently and helping your classmates.

Assignments: You are expected to take tests and quizzes, submit projects, essays, and homework,  and make presentations on the assigned dates. If you do not contact your instructor when you are  absent on the day an assignment is due, you will NOT be permitted to make up the assignment.

Extra Help: We all learn at our own speed, and that is OK! However, please be proactive  about your learning. Contact your instructor for help if you are having trouble. You can  meet me in office hours right after class on Thursdays.

Communication: The syllabus, announcements, assignments, and useful website links will be  posted on Moodle. You must check your Moodle and Drew email regularly for updates.

Evaluation of student performance:

You will be given a letter grade (A, B, C, D, or F) based on a percentage of all work completed  during the semester. You must earn at least 70% (C-) overall to progress to the next course.

In EAP 102, we will use the following grading scale:
